The National Gallery of Art presents the exhibition Chiniese Xieyi: Selected Works from the National Art Museum of Chinaorganized by the National Art Museum of China. The core of this exhibition comprises artworks that represent the museum’s collection, supplemented with other artworks by Chinese traditional ink artists, oil painters, graphic artists, sculptors and watercolour painters – selected by the curators. The exhibition introduces Lithuanian audiences to an important feature of Chinese art called Xieyi that combines a distinctive freehand brushwork tradition with the ideas of contemporary art and the challenges of modern life. The curators of this exhibition emphasize the fact that since ancient times, Chinese art was never intent on copying reality and focused instead on the inner experiences of the artist and their thoughts on the surrounding world Xieyi is an excellent expression of this approach, founded on intuition and individual interpretation.

The exhibition presents 73 artworks created by 28 Chinese artists. The exhibition will be accompanied by a dedicated public lecture and creative workshop.
