Immersive Audio Experience ‘Fiera del Suono: Echoes of the Carnival Chronicles’ at the Radvila Palace Museum of Art
24 – 28 May, 2025
An awardwinning Audio Experience will be open for the public related to the EBU Audio Storytelling Festival, organized by the LRT, Lithuanian National Radio and Television and EBU, European Broadcasting Union.
Step into a one-of-a-kind audio journey that brings the rich history of the carnival to life. During the Audio Storytelling festival organized by the EBU and the Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT, the immersive audio experience Fiera del Suono will be presented at the Radvila Palace Museum of Art, located in the very center of UNESCO protected city of Vilnius. In the venue’s center hall, visitors are welcomed by towering, colorful inflatables evoking the fantastical world of the fairground. From a crystal ball, a fortune teller takes you on a time-traveling adventure that reveals how the carnival has long served as a breeding ground for creativity and technological innovation.
From May 24 to 28, this immersive installation invites audiences to experience an audio-guided time machine powered by site-responsive sound systems. Explore how, through the centuries, the carnival has evolved into a stage for diverse art forms such as theater and dance and has showcased breakthrough technologies—from photography and steam engines to electricity and virtual reality. The fortune teller leads you into a swirling audio world of circus horses, carousels, rollercoasters, and AI prophets, propelling you into a possible future. Using open headphones and 64-speaker surround sound, Fiera del Suono creates an augmented audio environment that immerses the listener in a dynamic 3D soundscape. Wander freely through the space as the story unfolds all around you.
Design Research into Sonic Cultural Heritage
Fiera del Suono—the fair of sound—is the result of a cultural research project from The Netherlands exploring new ways to bring sonic cultural heritage to broader audiences through cutting-edge audio technologies. Audio has become an increasingly powerful medium, enabling deeper and more immersive storytelling.
The project is a collaboration between media art collective DROPSTUFF MEDIA, the Netherlands Institute for Sound & Vision, and the City Museum Tilburg. Over the past two years, they have developed the concept within innovation programs funded by the Creative Industries Fund NL and Cultuurloket DigitALL. In partnership with students from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Utrecht University of Applied Sciences, and Fontys School of Fine and Performing Arts Tilburg, the team selected archival sound fragments, created an interactive storyline, developed animations, and designed the spatial experience—complete with light, scents, and laser zones.
Winner of the International Sound Awards
Fiera del Suono received two Better Sound Awards at the International Sound Awards 2024 in the categories of Sound Art and Surround / Ambient Sound.
