Exhibition "Lithuania of Mstislav Dobuzhinski" in St. Petersburg State Museum of Theater and Music

The exhibition „Lithuania of Mstislav Dobuzhinski“, is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the restoration of the state of Lithuania, continues to operate successfully in one of the most beautiful St. Petersburg State Theater and Musical Art Museum buildings in the Sheremetev Palace. Artworks from the Lithuanian Art Museum, National M. K. Čiurlionis Art Museum, Lithuanian Theater, Music and Cinema Museum collections, as well as exhibits from the Lithuanian National Martynas Mažvydas Library, the Alexander Vasiliev Foundation and Marius Jankauskas collections have been selected for this exhibition. The project is presented by the Lithuanian Culture Council.
The exhibition is aimed at introducing not only Mstislav Dobuzhinsky, but also the culture of the whole country before World War II. Mstislavas Dobužinskis – participant of the society „Мир искусства“, graphic artist, book illustrator, theater artist, heraldic specialist, author of memoirs – became a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania in 1924, lived and worked in Lithuania until the end of the 4th decade of 20th century. The organizers of the exhibition from three Lithuanian museums keep detailed collections of the artist’s works of Lithuanian period. These are classic Vilnius and Kaunas paintings, drawings of Lithuanian towns and manors, sketches of theater costumes and scenery from the shows in State Theater, of some of the most famous opera and ballet performances.
The exhibition was supported by the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Government of St. Petersburg (advertising of the project in the metropolitan area of St. Petersburg). The general sponsor is AAS „BTA Baltic Insurance Company“.
On one of the most exclusive Kaunas Days in St. Petersburg, that will take place at the end of April 2018, the exhibition catalog will be presented. The exhibition will run until 2018. May 13.
