Four Seasons in East Prussia Art
From 4 June to 15 September 2019

19th and 1st half of the 20th century painting from the collection of Aleksandr Popov (Klaipėda).
Exhibition of the Cultural Tourism Project In Search of the Wonderful Land. From Nida Artists’ Colony to Pranas Domšaitis
The mission of the Society of the East Prussian Art Lovers Nidden, founded in 2009 in Klaipėda, is to trace, collect and disseminate information about art works created in East Prussia that vividly depict nature, history and inhabitants of the region. Within just one decade, chair of the Society Aleksandr Popov found and acquired in art auctions in Germany over 1300 works of painting and graphic art by almost 300 artists related to East Prussia.
The exhibition Four Seasons in East Prussia Art is made up from the collection of Aleksander Popov. The paintings included in the exhibition remind of two most significant phenomena of the East Prussian art history – the Königsberg Art Academy (which was opened in 1845 and functioned through 1945) and the Nida Artists’ Colony (which was formed at the end of the 19th century and existed through 1945). Based on the nature of relations with East Prussia, the artists presented in the exhibition can be conditionally divided into several groups that revel the scope of ties wich bound artists to the artistic East Prussia space: whether this was where they were born, lived, whether they studied at the Academy, some even ended up teaching there, or whether they visited just once or several time. Often the name of the particular artist might feature in several positions: this was where they were born, lived, studied, worked, the place they led, and later returned to.

From 2014 a longlasting exhibition The Wonderful Land. Artists in East Prussia. 19th and the first half of the 20th century painting and graphic art from the collection of Aleksandr Popov is opened in Klaipėda, in the Pranas Domšaitis Gallery which is a subsidiary of the Lithuanian Art Museum (LAM). It showcases 276 paintings and other graphic art pieces by 141 artists. When travelling on the Cultural Tourism Route In Search of the Wonderful Land.
