Call for Papers for the International Scholarly Conference "Franciszek Smuglewicz and the Age of Enlightenment in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Europe"

The Lithuanian National Museum of Art and Faculty of History at Vilnius University invites submissions for the international scholarly conference Franciszek Smuglewicz and the Age of Enlightenment in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Europe, which will take place at the Vilnius Picture Gallery on 16–17 May 2024.
The convention will bring together scholars who focus on Franciszek Smuglewicz as a representative of the Enlightenment, his works, biography, and his wide spectrum activity, as well as processes of the Enlightenment, the events of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Europe that created the conditions for the development of intellectual and versatile personalities. The conference aims to shed light on the latest research outcome and insights, and to create opportunities for a wider discussion.
Suggested (but not limited) contribution topics:
- Periods and aspects of Franciszek Smuglewicz’s creative work
- Franciszek Smuglewicz’s personality, ideological and historical cultural context
- New work attributions to Franciszek Smuglewicz
- Franciszek Smuglewicz’s milieu, processes and events of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Europe during the Age of Enlightenment
We invite art historians, historians, culturologists, museologists, heritage conservationists, and researchers of other fields.
The conference proceedings will be published in the peer reviewed magazine published by the Lithuanian National Museum of Art.
Conference languages are Lithuanian and English with simultaneous interpretation.
The length of the presentation is up to 20 minutes. Please submit article topics, summaries in Lithuanian and English (up to 350 words) and speakers’ biographies before 15 March 2024 by email to gabija.kasparaviciute@lndm.lt.
Applicants will be informed of the selection results before 22 March.
