Vytautas Kasiulis Art Museum presents the most important exhibition in 2015 dedicated to photo reporter and photo artist Juozapas Čechavičius’ arrival to Vilnius 150th years anniversary. This is the first exhibition widely representing a creative legacy of the great photographer in the Lithuanian Art Museum. Together with the artistic photos there are exhibited archival documents, family album photos, self-portraits, personal photographer’s stamp, postcards, the caricature drawn by Alfredas Römeris. Memory institutions of Lithuania, Poland Museum lent the photos and documents and helped to organize the exhibition.

There are more than 150 original photos of Vilnius and Vilnius surroundings (taken in 1870-1885) displayed in this exhibition. For decades Čechavičius was the only photographer of Vilnius; he took photos in an open air and thanks to the artist we could see Vilnius view a century before, its development, dynamics and changes. Exceptional exhibits of this exhibition are 2-5 sequence panoramic photos taken from the heights surrounding Vilnius. Visitors will see an industrial progress of the city and various events: the construction of houses, bridges, Neris River embankment, equipping of sewer and water supply, inevitable demolitions of dwellings, fairs, and the view of decorated streets of Vilnius in 1884 before the arrival of the Russian Emperor Alexander III.
